I'm not a web designer but this was most interesting.

When I began reading the article, I was reminded of an Asian shopping center near me that is intriguing. As I walked from store to store or restaurant to restaurant the theme or atmosphere or design or layout (what word am I looking for here?) was completely different but well done. I walked several times back and forth in awe. Then there was an American burger store in the midst of them -- I thought Wow, that is really trashy looking.
