A little story of consequences
The little bird flying around….
It’s over 10 years ago.
I’m a new hire. We do a class mini-project the first day where you take spaghetti noodles and build a bridge together. I can remember thinking how silly the whole thing was. I would look at the teacher to see if he was really serious about this.
Months later, I find out a manager that I had zero interactions with is bad mouthing me behind my back. I spent some time trying to figure out what that was about. I was thankful my co-worker made me aware, he was puzzled too.
I come across a video of the above exercise. I connect the dots. The manager was that teacher!
I would try to have normal conversations with him when the occasion allowed to see what his deal was. Good family man. Visibly angry dude. I left him alone after that.
Occasionally he’d be in a meeting with me and others. Dang, is he going to have a heart attack?
He moved up the ladder quite well to his credit. Down the road I am concerned about his health. Of course, I cannot go there with him.
There have been countless times where I found out someone has rightly or wrongly drawn conclusions about me. I’ll keep it to myself but one had quite an impact on me when I was much younger.
